At Nicknickers we have always used American Apparel manufacturing for our clothing. We use them now because they're made in the USA. If we were to over purchase cotton and be wasteful and make more of the same we would also be made in the U.S.A. But at Nicknickers we are not the same. And, just as important, we like American Apparel. We've liked them and used them since we first created this line in 2002. I had just come back to LA from one of my "Artistic" trips back home to Chicago (Christmas) and a friend of mine "J Rach" loved what I was doing and said that I should just put my face on women's underwear and I said YEAH we can call it Nicks Knickers. So began the tedious task of iron on patching my "Warholian" styled face over the crotch of ladies panties we got from Downton LA for like $1.73 a piece. It was brilliant! To this day neither one of us could ever figure out why that never worked. So in 2003 I brought it back as a make fun of me line where we would make fun of ourselves and all the crazy shit going on with the war and sports and technology. So any time I made a design I tried to be funny or stupid or put out some innuendo for a cause or an activist for everything we thought was good. And I always used American Apparel to do a one off and see if people liked it. Now they got too expensive for that. They're still expensive. But sometimes you have to pay the price. We feel we're doing our part by not getting a cheaper product from overseas, putting our label on it and acting like it's ours. We may put the label on our clothes sometimes but we believe eventually it won't matter, it will be ubiquitous and everyone will know that the shirt you have on is Nicknickers. American Apparel has always been a part of that.
